Literature Text

Ashes and dust,
Mists and rain,
Fog and plume.

A hazy sky alights
Muffled sounds drum on and on.
The world is muted, strangely gray
Strangely unsaturated,
In a hazy way.

The drifting of leaves,
The flutter of snow.

A muted world slows, hollow, unspoken.
It stings my breath, and rattles my bones.

Sink far, sink slow. Rattle on and on.
The Sun will rise, yet no warmth will dawn.
Sing joyful songs, so She'll begone.

Who is She? Winter has come.
A poem about winter, but also about what winter represents. A fall, a loss of light. The feeling of hopelessness, a dry and cold loneliness, like depression. But winter doesn't last forever nor is it a completely horrible thing. Depression comes with learning and growth, and hopefully strength. Hardened by the harshness of winter, we can find true appreciation and joy from the rebirth of spring.
